Jenny Vaughan

Jenny Vaughn is a consultant who has worked in the NHS for 30 years. In her TEDxNHS talk she harnesses the power of storytelling to highlight the many conditions which contribute when terrible incidents happen in healthcare. In her talk, and in her work, Jenny challenges assumptions of individual guilt and blame and encourages us all to keep bringing hope.

Reconnecting Hope: When things go wrong what part should we play?

Jenny is a consultant neurologist and is a leading campaigner for reforming the law on gross negligence manslaughter when applied to those working in healthcare. She is co-lead for the ‘Learn not Blame’ campaign at the Doctors’ Association UK (DAUK), a voluntary frontline lobbying organisation for doctors. She is also an executive member of the Harmed Patients Alliance and is a current council member of the Royal College of Physicians (RCP) and the Medical Women’s Federation (MWF).

Jenny has campaigned to tackle discrimination in the NHS and Independent Healthcare sector, for which she has been recognised by both British Association of Physicians of Indian Origin and British International Doctor’s Association.
